Gary had long been captivated by the mellifluous and expressive English language. Growing up in a rustic backwater, he had been exposed to the language from an early age and harbored an enduring ardor to cultivate fluency. However, despite years of unflagging study and assiduous practice, he had never been able to attain the level of linguistic proficiency he yearned for. He struggled to comprehend native speakers, often consumed with a profound sense of mortification when forced to request repetition.

Gary had attempted to avail himself of various language learning resources throughout the years, from textbooks to language exchange partners, yet none seemed to be efficacious. The fruitlessness of his attempts left him feeling beleaguered and demoralized, and he began to question whether he would ever realize his ambition of mastering the English language.

He was better equipped to comprehend native speakers and felt more sanguine when articulating his thoughts in English. He began to deploy the new vocabulary words he had learned in his written and verbal communication, impressing those around him with his acumen and adroitness.

Beyond his linguistic pursuits, reading English-language articles had other ancillary benefits for Gary. He was brought up to speed on current events in the United States and around the world, feeling more erudite about global issues. He even began incorporating some of the ideas he had gleaned from his reading into his work as a software engineer, garnering the admiration of his classmates.
